Yesterday's history for a better tomorrow
On May 13 at the auditorium of the school, was proposed to the MILE Middle students a meeting on the on the theme of the Righteous and the Genocide of the Armenian people, which took place at the hands of the Young Turks in the framework of the First World War (1914-1918), in the area of the former Ottoman Empire.
A meeting intended not to forget and to commemorate the Righteous of the past and present, to spread the values of responsibility, tolerance, solidarity, because we believe that the memory of Good is a powerful educational tool and serves to prevent genocide and crimes against humanity.
The meeting was led by and talked about their experience as children of deportees, the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Lombardy Pietro Kuciukian, Dr. Anna Maria Samuelli and Mrs. Armine Pambakian.
During the meeting, videos and testimonies were presented and the young people were particularly sensitive and involved in the story and humanity of the three speakers, whose profiles we are pleased to present:
Pietro Kuciukian, activist and essayist, son of a survivor of the Armenian genocide, he was trained at the College of Mechitarists in Venice where he learned the Armenian language and works and lives in Milan.
He is committed to the cultural protection of the Armenian people, thanks to the Committee "Memory is the Future" of which it is founder and to the museum of the genocide of Yerevan with which it collaborates, among other things, recand
With Gabriele Nissim he founded Gariwo, the forest of the Righteous, which promotes international conferences (e.g. Padua, 2000, "Si può sempre dire un sì o un no"), whose proceedings have been published. He edited the memoirs of Raffaele Gianighian, who survived the genocide.
Appointed Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Italy in 2007, he collaborates on the Sunday of the Sun 24 hours.
Anna Maria Kuciukian Samuelli, teacher of philosophy and history in high schools, she has been responsible for the training and updating of teachers. She has collaborated with the magazines "Storia e Dossier" and "Servitium". She was responsible for the historical part and the texts of the bilingual catalogue (Italian-English, Guerini e Associati, reprint 2015) of the exhibition Armin T. Wegner and the Armenians in Anatolia, 1915. Images and testimonials, inaugurated in 1995 at the Archaeological Museum of Milan.
She is a founding member of the Gariwo, the forest of the Righteous, whose proceedings she edited at international conferences on the theme of the righteous in the genocides of the twentieth century and in which she works on programming activities. She is currently responsible for the didactic section of Gariwo and organizes seminars for teachers, educational visits to the Garden of the Righteous in Monte Stella in Milan, interventions in schools on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance and the European Day of the Righteous.
